Just played our last gig ... - September 29, 2008

Well, our last dance weekend for the forseeable future is behind us, and we had a really really wonderful time. The outpouring of love from everyone was truly amazing. We hope you and anyone reading this knows that that love is, well, right back atcha. Without the dance energy feeding back to us in a big old loop, we would have just been playing a few tunes up there. So thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for giving us so many big years of fun.

There's been lots of speculation and questions about the reasons for our decision to stop playing together as a band. The best answer we can give is that the band has had a good long run and we all became busy with other parts of our lives, and also that it was time to end our "work" relationship while we were still good friends. And by the way, the rumor that Mark and Hilarie are splitting up is the farthest thing from the truth.

Hotpoint has also not ruled out doing a "reunion gig" or two sometime in the future. We also have other musical project in the works, which I'll write about here as they develop.

Please feel free to write in our guestbook; it will warm the cockles of our hearts in the months ahead.

Love,
the Hotpoint Stringband

i just ran across this video, taken a year or two ago at dancing fool in seattle. we're playing and cis hinkle is calling. some fun being had down there on the floor! it's here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BJCorzzPHRc
then there's also a pretty cool video made by bill dudley of a little jam at clifftop this past year. pokey is playing banjo uke and hilarie is playing banjo, so it's 2/5 hotpoint (and 3/5 rachel eddy, stuart kenney, and bill dudley. it's located here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=rWWP0Nif5Z4

had a great time in the DC area... - June 26, 2007

What a lovely time we had! The weather was unbelievably cooperative... relatively cool for this time of year, crisp and clear. We played for the Glen Echo Friday Night Dance in the beautiful Spanish Ballroom.

More than 400 dancers came out to contribute their energy to the cause. Great tailgate party too! The band spent Saturday at Harpers Ferry, and visited dancer pal Ann Hineman, then played the Frederick dance where our pal Chef Wally presented us with a massive amount of really great chocolate from the Wilbur Chocolate Co. in Lititz PA. Thanks again, Wally!!! Then it was back to Glen Echo for the Sunday night dance in the bumper car pavillion... where the dancers spurred us on to pour ever more energy into the tunes. A good time was had by all.
